 "
Our method of building the strongest loft bed possible comes from a combination of engineering and materials..."
Hardware

We use tempered steel screws, hardened nails, and steel brackets on every bed. We know how important it is to use quality hardware, and we spare no expense. Any good construction job is only as good as the hardware used and the equipment used to install that hardware. Our installation equipment is top-of-the-line and includes professional equipment such as Paslode, L-ION equipment, Hilti, DeWalt, Makita, and Safety Speed Cut.

Craftsmenship

We carefully craft each and every piece of lumber to assure a smooth and even surface that eliminates splinters and provides an even painting surface. All of the lumber we use is inspected piece by piece to assure quality, planed (re-cutting a bur-free edge with a machine), and sanded. You will not find that quality with any other loft bed company!

People often ask if the loft bed will be strong enough to hold two people. Yes. They are built unbelievable strength yes look very streamlined and refined. You can rest assured that our amazing craftsmanship equals strength, which is found in each and every bed. In addition, every bed built in our shop is weight tested before it is approved and installed.

All the wood, brackets, nuts, bolts, screws, and flanges we use all exceed any possible weight requirement in which the bed will be subjected. We use a Safety Factor (SF) of 2.5, which means if a flange needs 400 lb. strength, we will use 1000lb hardware
(SF 2.5 in technical terms). Some call it overkill, we call it safe.

Engineering

The Loftbeds we build are a combination  of engineering and application. With two decades of building experience,  we have designed  what we like to think  of as the perfect balance of strength and weight. Our beds have not, and will not fail, ever.  Wood itself has properties that most will never thing about. Grain direction, ends, butting, leverage, and intergrated support are all taken into consideration when building each and every loft bed.

Our bed design significantly stronger then and store bought beds, and each and every bed is tested before leaving our shop. Our platform is our own refined design that evenly distributes weight, supports the mattress evenly, and yes - it can hold more than one person.

Our beds have been tested to over 600 pounds!

Kiln Dried wood:
The use of kiln dried wood has become increasingly popular through the years. This lumber doubles the materials cost, but the benefits far outweigh the costs. Kiln dried wood most importantly is stronger then it's air-dried counterpart. It is also lighter (due to a minimal moisture content) and therefore will not shrink, warp, or flex.

Staying "green" is also the focus of Sticks for Stones Woodworking. The use of kiln driend wood also eliminates the use of pesticides and fungicides. When wood is cut, it immediately becomes suseptible to fungus, mold, and bugs. Air dried wood is first dipped in a huge vat of pesticides and fungicides, and it is then laid out to dry. Kiln dried wood is taken in it's natural state and immediately dried, completely eliminating the need for chemical treatments or infestation. Our wood scraps are given to local artists, or made into custom furniture in our shop - which has been sold at the "Brooklyn Flea" in Ft. Greene. Lastly, our lumber comes from renuable resources. The material we use is both fast growing and farm grown.

Greener tomorrows: Sticks for Stones is dedicated to the preservation of our air, land, and water, and believe that everyone can help. We offer a recycled wood options which are gentle on the environment. Currently we offer chipboard and a composite board. In addition we can special order super-renuable woods such as corn husk, wheatboard, and bamboo.
