Frequently Asked Questions:
Who is Sticks for Sticks for Stones Woodworking?
We are a New York City based company specializing in creative space saving furniture to help small apartment dwellers in need of more space. We are not general contractors. We are a full-service company exclusively dedicated to building loft beds and space saving additions. We have done thousands of jobs in the New York City metro area, and have equally as many satisfied customers. We are also capable of manufacturing prototypes, and advanced custom projects.
Why use you guys, and not any old
crusty general contractor or Carpenter?
Sticks for Stones only builds lofts. We don't do drywall, we don't tile, we don't install windows, nor do we frame pictures. In the cases just aforementioned, you would want a specialist for those tasks and the same applies to us. Trust the company who has done a loft on nearly every block in New York City. Crooked walls, weak walls, strange protrusions, and impossible spaces are normal everyday occurrences for us.
What type of space saving designs?
We build Loft beds/Raised beds as the centerpiece to our designs. Additionally we offer pre-fabricated built-in dressers, cubbies, closets, and shelving units. Due to demand, we now offer Platform beds!
How expensive are your services?
We have very competitive pricing and generally have greater prices due to our amazing efficiency. Call or write for a rough quote, and if you like it, we can talk further to find out an exact price.
Do you offer high end or low end woodwork?
We offer a solution for nearly every financial situation.
Do you have to see my space before you come to install my loft bed?
Generally no. Unless the space has very crooked walls, unusual features, or needs ultra custom sizing. If the bed is a free-standing (with legs), no consultation is needed before delivering the bed. In the case of a spanning bed (from wall to wall) no measurements are needed as all the building is done on premises.
In the case of pre-fabricated walls or closets, we come over and measure your walls before they are built in our workshop.
What does the prices include?
Sticks for Stones Woodworking is a FULL-SERVICE company, meaning the price you are given includes everything from prep and building, delivery to installation. Everything you will need for a loft, including a ladder, is included in the price. All you need to do is choose your favorite beverage to sit back and relax. After the build, we mail you a receipt, and any tax-deductions for which you may qualify. Because most of our products are pre-made in our facility, our clients have very little wait time while we deliver and install your bed - Therefore saving you time just waiting around!
Is all the building and construction done in my apartment?
Besides in the case of a custom spanning bed, 95% of the construction is done in our workshop, eliminating the need to turn your home into a construction zone. This also allows for very precise building and higher quality products.
All wonderful features that our competitors cannot claim!
Since I'm a renter, will a Wall-Integrated Loft bed damage my walls?
A wall integrated loft bed utilizes the structure within your wall, and long screws are used to install the bed. When a wall-built loft bed removed, there will be some small screw holes one-sixteenth of an inch in diameter. Simply fill in the holes with common putty (Spackle or joint compound) found in any hardware store for $2.99. The best way to fill the holes is a small amount of putty applied with the finger. We have heard from hundreds of clients over the years that have removed beds, and their landlords (Supers as we say in NY) have never had an issue.
How much weight can a Sticks for Stones loft bed hold?
Our beds are designed to evenly distribute weight across the entire frame. This is what makes sticks for Stones loft beds better then our competition, and the most popular lofts in New York City. But to the point, our design has been tested to over 600lbs.
We did not use animals for this testing.
What are the dimensions of standard sized beds?

How long does it take to install a loft bed?
A loft bed alone can be installed between two and three hours. Extra items add time.
Almost all of the building is done in our workshop beforehand, saving you time.
Do you paint or Varnish?
Yes, but be warned that our staining usually starts at around $400 for a complete bed. Why? We apply several coats and good application takes time. The typical varnish or paint job takes 3-4 days and 8+ hours. Our paint is applied in our dedicated HVLP/Spray room at our shop, so you're sure to have a clean, smooth finish.
Am I super smart after I visiting this informative website?

Can I pick up a bed at your Park Slope Workshop?
You can pick-up a lofted bed or platform bed and assemble it yourself, which saves you money. However, you must have the height information before ordering, and our pick-up beds only have heights available up-to 76". We have a loading dock for easy loading into a truck or van.
